Xperia X2 - Questions & Problems
Sony Ericsson Xperia X2
Just bought an Xperia X2 for $650 CDN, Yesterday having a few small problems / questions.
Question One: How do I change the time from 24 hour clock to a 12 hour clock? I've gone into Settings -> System Settings -> Regional Settings and changed it from HH:mm:ss to H:mm:ss and turned the phone off then on. Tried other way around and it stays a 24 hour clock. The time sytle example doesnt change between the two options, it stays 24 hour clock.
Question Two: How do I access the Memory card on my computer. I installed Windows Mobile Center on Windows 7. I can acess the Phones Memory but not the memory card itself where all the pictures and stuff are.
Question Three: The time of sending and recieving texts is different for me. I'll send a text at 13:33 and she replys 10 seconds later but the phone says she replied at 9:33, when it should be 13:33 aswell as it was sent and recived at the same time. This happens with everyone I text. Not a big deal but annoying as I wont know the correct time they texted me back.
Question Four: Everything seems to kinda run a little slow when opening things etc.... I have checked task manager and nothing else is running data is off everything, but still pretty slow. I watched a video saying that It will recieve an update this month but when I go to sonys website they only have the X1 on there not the X2 for some stupid reason.
Question Five: Battery dies pretty quick, data turned off, wifi, bluetooth all turned off, screen birghtness is set to auto so it's pretty dim shouldnt kill battery so fast. Charged while sleeping been up for a few hours and it's already at 70% all I have been doing is just trying to figure out how to fix the dam time been really bugging me.
Question Six: How does the xperia do on data plans? WIll a 500mb plan do it if I just casually go on facebook and msn pretty much maybe a little youtube and other sites? Or would you reccomend getting more? I will be just using wifi to download anything or while at home.
Question Seven: Does anyone know a good X2 forum not X1. Looking for some nice themes, mods, and hacks or whatever one day, just trying to get used to Windows Mobile right now. Saw some Andriod on the X1 not on the X2 though. Forget what theme thing I'm using now I think I'm just using the shell one? foret what it's called it came installed on the phone. It's pretty nice and better then the other ones allows me to move and choose my apps similar to other smart phones and iPhones with the shortcuts.
I really like Sony Ericsson, and love the look of the Xperia's. So far I have to say that it's giving me a really bad impression and almost regretting purchasing this product. I was thinking of waiting for the X10 but I like the X2's keybored. I love the Xperia it's a great phone just slow and annoying right now.
Give me some tips, and hints. Cool things to do and so on.
Perhaps an answer to question 4 and 5:
Start Task manager (Start / Taskmanager)
It shows no cpu activity..
BUT WAIT: switch to Process view:
( menu /show /processes) look at device.exe (wait at least 5 sec for the value to update. Is it running at 80-100% cpu ??
If so try this: Start bluetooth (wait for the bluetooth symbol to show up in the taskbar) !!
Start task manager again and check process usage: Now it should have dropped to normal levels ??
It seems to be a bug with BT/WLAN and GPS communications that makes device.exe go wild .
If it helped the phone should be running a lot faster and batterytime should have improved alot.
I hope that this bug will be fixed in the upcoming 6.5.2 release that is on the way...
I have also seen this bug also when experimenting with GPS comport settings ... Switching them back to normal and activating Bluetooth always fixed it (for me)
question 1:- sounds like youre doing it the right way... in regional settings then under the Time tab click on time style and theres four options, you want the 3rd or 4th which have the "tt" at the end eg "hh:mm:ss tt" if that doesnt work then maybe you have a bug.
question 2:- im using active sync... when i explore the phone theres a folder called "storage card" so maybe try active sync instead of mobile center.
question 3:- very strange. could be related to your system time problem..
question 4:- ive found sometimes the X2 can be slow if ive done a soft reset. but if i turn the phone off...then manually back on its better. its usually sluggish for the first 5 or 10 mins (probably loading in the background) then its ok. really the X2 is only good enough for a couple applications open at the same time. but you should be able to read texts and listen to music at the same time without any problems.
the update isnt out yet which is why you cant see it... ive heard its due sometime this week.
question 5: yes the X2 eats battery. its something theyre hoping to improve with the updates. but a good start is to adjust the backlight down to the lowest comfortable setting. the light is one of the things that drains the battery quick. i charge mine up every other day. plus remember its a new toy and youre probably playing around with it more than you would normally. once you get used to it and leave it alone youll find the battery lasts a bit longer. i charge mine every other day. ive got a usb cable plugged into my pc, i just connect it up whenever im next to the pc. dont drain the battery before recharging. thats very bad for li-on batterys. they like constant charge so plug it in whenever you want.
question 6 500mb will be more than enough. webpages and emails on phones arent all that big.
question 7: there arrent really many ways to customise or hack the X2 just yet. you can use quite a bit of X1 software. just trial and error really. the X1 forum on xda developers is worth checking out.
have a look at the "spb" panel if youve not already got it.
